PHULKARI- the heritage work of Punjab
Phulkari for a long time has been restricted to embroidered shawls and head scarfs but as fashion world is tremendously growing with the pace , Phulkari has also left no stone unturned with its lavish unique embroidery ... this traditional work can be seen on lehengas , salwar suits , sarees , dupattas , dress materials and so on !!
Phulkari is a creation of 15th century and as the name says it 'Phulkari ' means flower embroidery from the back side of the cotton cloth and it is stitched with reverse intricacies that is why it's highly priced because of long hours been devoted in its craftsmanship.
Phulkari is basically embroided with mostly zari or Sitara work and it can even been plainly stitched on the cotton material .
To give it its traditional touch , it is still stitched with hands in many parts of Punjab in the modern world of stitching machines taking all labour work to save time and energy .
Well even I couldn't stop myself buying this beautiful authentic piece of sequenced embroidery right from Punjab (the land of prosperity ) Amritsar and add another feather to my closet ❤️
